What to see and do at Oyster Bay…
From horse riding and dune safaris to hiking, fishing and picnics, Oyster Bay Lodge is a veritable holiday destination in South Africa.
There is plenty to see and do at Oyster Bay Lodge and surrounding area!
Have you ever pictured yourself standing on the top of a dune and see yourself sliding down on a sand board. Feel the wind blow through your hair, while there is nothing but serine beauty surrounding you. We will show you the ropes at the lodge and you can go at your own pace with the sand board.
Guided Night Walk With Stargazing
Have you ever wondered about the stars? Are there different stars in the southern hemisphere compared to that of the northern hemisphere? What creatures dwell in the dark? Well you now have the opportunity to go on a guided hike through 235 hectares of land accompanied by an experienced guide. You will be able to ask questions and gain knowledge as well. Enjoy a hot beverage under the stars. Tours depart at 20:30. (Minimum of 2 persons)
Guided Bird, Fynbos and Wetland Walk
Take a walk in our 235 hectare large property which is home to over 170 different bird species, with a variety of different environments, such as a 3.5 km private beachfront, 2 vast stretches of dunes, wetlands, woodlands, river deltas and a variety of fynbos. There is a dedicated trail for this walk. The guide will take you along the trail and show you all that is to be seen and a whole lot more. (Minimum of 2 persons)
Explore the coastal reserve and private beach on one of our free roaming horses. Even “first timers” can enjoy this once in a life time experience. An experienced guide will join you on your ride through the dunes and “fynbos”. The more experienced rider can have a breathtaking gallop alongside the waves of the Indian Ocean.
Relax and enjoy a drive through our wetlands, lagoons, woodlands and fynbos. Birding, whale watching, sundowners, night drives, are just some of the few highlights to experience on our Dune Safari.
A real challenge! Explore 235 ha of nature on a mountain bike. Ride over dunes, through the river and on the beach. A good health and condition is needed!
Fishing can be done from the beachfront or at the rocks within walking distance from the lodge. Bring your own fishing equipment and catch your own Cape Salmon.
For the more adventurous ones, we can arrange a deepsee fishing experience on a catamaran on the Indian Ocean.
Four different hiking trails have been set out on the Coastal reserve. All the hiking trails are marked with different colours and vary from 3 to 7,5 km. Breath in the fresh air of the “fynbos” and listen to the sounds of nature and extensive birdlife.
Try to keep your head above the water in the waves of the Indian Ocean, but be careful of the strong current, so don’t go to far! After a refreshing splash in the sea, enjoy a real swim in our freshwater swimmingpool and catch a bit of sun for a nice tan.
To look after your appetite, we recommend to enjoy a picnic on one of our viewing decks. Our friendly staff will gladly prepare a delicious picnic basket for you. Just let us now when and where and one of our experienced guides will bring the basket to you on horseback!
